Jack: Terms of Use

Version: 2026-10-16
Last updated: 16 October 2026

These Terms are an agreement between you and Absolute Red ("we"), who runs the Jack app and its server. By using Jack, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Jack is

A free personal-safety app. You can check in, send alerts to people you trust, share your location with them, ask for help, report a missing person or forced recruitment, keep evidence, and use the Help letter, the guides and Outdoor mode.

2. It is not an emergency service

Jack does not contact the police, an ambulance, a rescue service or anyone else on its own.

An alert can arrive late or not at all: for example with no internet or signal, a phone that is off, broken or taken, a message service that fails, or a trusted contact who does not see it. When it is safe, also contact local emergency services or others who can help. Do not rely on Jack alone.

3. Who can use it

People aged 13 or older. Jack is not for children under 13, and registering asks you to confirm your age. We do not check it or ask for a parent's consent. If you are under 18, use Jack where your local law allows it.

4. Your account

Give true information and use only your own account. Do not pretend to be someone else, try to get into another person's account, or give your sign-in codes or backup code to anyone. If you think someone got into your account, use "Sign out other devices" in the app.

5. Check-ins

You choose how often to check in. If you miss one, the app reminds you first. If you turned on Safety alerts and stay quiet for the extra hours you chose, the trusted contacts you picked get a calm message that they have not heard from you.

A missed check-in only means we have not heard from you. It is never treated as proof that something happened to you.

6. Trusted contacts

You can add up to 10 trusted contacts. Emergency alerts go to all of them. You choose who also gets missed check-in messages and who sees your location. They receive nothing until they have joined Jack and agreed to these Terms.

If you are someone's trusted contact, use what you receive only to keep them safe. Never use it to follow, watch, control, threaten or harass anyone, and never pass it to others.

You can remove a trusted contact at any time in the app.

7. Emergency alerts (SOS)

You can send an emergency alert with the danger button, the widget, the quick-settings tile or the app shortcut. You get 5 seconds to cancel. The alert goes to every trusted contact who has accepted. Do not send false alerts on purpose.

8. Duress PIN

If you use App lock, you can set a second, secret "duress" PIN. If someone forces you to open the app, use it: the app opens, shows none of your real information, and quietly sends an emergency alert.

With the duress PIN, deleting, withdrawing or erasing only looks done. Nothing is really deleted, so you do not lose your information. We cannot promise the other person will be fooled, or that the alert will arrive.

The same goes for location sharing. With the duress PIN, turning sharing off only looks done: your phone keeps sharing your latest position with the trusted contacts you chose, and the "Location sharing is on" notice is hidden. Only you can set a duress PIN, and it never lets anyone else follow you.

9. Location sharing

Off until you turn it on. Then the trusted contacts you chose see your latest position, also when the app is closed. We keep only the latest position. Turning sharing off deletes it. A position can be wrong or out of date. While sharing is on, Jack shows a "Location sharing is on" notification. Jack never starts sharing without you, and you can stop it at any time in Settings.

10. Outdoor mode

For a risky journey. While it is on, tap at least every 5 hours. If you don't, your trusted contacts are told to check on you, with when your phone was last online and whether its battery was low. One hour later you are marked as missing and an urgent alert goes out. A flat battery or no signal can cause a false alarm.

11. Reports

You can report yourself or someone else as missing, or report forced recruitment. Report others only for a real safety reason, honestly, and with only the information needed. Never make a false report or use a report to harm someone. A report does not prove that anything happened, or that anyone is to blame.

Reports and evidence are encrypted, and our staff have no tool to read them. We do not tell anyone who made a report, unless a court orders us to.

You can withdraw your own report and restore it within 7 days. A withdrawn report stays stored until you erase your account.

If you are named in a report and want it removed, contact us (section 22). Because we have no tool to read reports, we may not be able to find or change it.

12. Help requests

You can ask for help and say how urgent it is. If you choose, your trusted contacts are told. Nobody is promised to respond.

13. Evidence

You can keep photos, videos, audio and documents. They are encrypted, and hidden data such as GPS position is removed where possible. Evidence is deleted after 730 days (2 years), or sooner if you delete it, unless it is under a legal hold.

14. Legal hold

Rarely, we may keep evidence that would otherwise be deleted, even after you erase your account: for a court order or other legal duty, a legal claim or investigation, to protect someone's life or safety, or to stop abuse of the app. Every hold has a written reason and is recorded. When you erase your account, the app tells you if any files are held.

15. Rules

Do not use Jack to track anyone without their consent, threaten or harass anyone, send false alerts or reports, make up evidence, upload illegal content, help any crime, or attack or break the app.

You can give the app a different name and icon so someone who controls you does not notice it. Never use this to trick people.

16. Your content

What you write and upload stays yours, and you are responsible for it. You allow us to store and send it only to run the app, and only to the people you chose. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use artificial intelligence on it.

17. The Help letter and the guides

They are general information, not legal, medical or immigration advice. Translations are first drafts, and phone numbers and rules can change. Check important information when it is safe.

18. Other services

Jack relies on other services, such as hosting, email, Telegram, Google and Facebook sign-in, maps, mobile networks and Google Play. We cannot promise they will always work.

19. Suspending and erasing accounts

We may suspend an account that is used to harm others, make false reports or alerts, break the law or attack the app. A suspended account is signed out and cannot sign in. Nothing is deleted. If you think we made a mistake, contact us.

You can erase your account at any time in the app, under Privacy.

20. Police, courts and governments

We give information to authorities only when the law requires it, and no more than it requires. Some things we cannot give because we do not have them: the Help letter, your PINs and your fingerprint stay only on your phone.

21. Changes and responsibility

We may change, pause or stop Jack. When these Terms change in an important way, the app asks you to agree again. Emergency features keep working while you decide.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses from using Jack, for example an alert that is late or never arrives, a wrong location, a service that fails, a false alarm, a trusted contact who misuses information, a lost or taken phone, or a mistake in the Help letter or guides. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you.

The English version is the binding one. If part of these Terms is found invalid, the rest still applies. If you have a complaint, please contact us first (section 22) so we can try to solve it together.
